PHASE ONE’s 2023 Annual Gala Raises Over $1M for Clinical Cancer Research

PHASE ONE Foundation expresses its sincerest gratitude to all who supported the 2023 PHASE ONE Gala. Thanks to an outpouring of generosity from a tremendously committed community, the event raised over $1M— the proceeds will fund Phase I and II clinical trials led by researchers investigating innovative cancer treatments.
The evening was chaired by Deanne and Marc Lebowitz whose herculean efforts made this year’s Gala an immense success. Over 600 people gathered at Sony Pictures Studios to pay it forward and make a vital difference in the lives of cancer patients and their families.
The success of the 2023 PHASE ONE Gala would not have been possible without the support of PHASE ONE’s Board of Directors, Gala Committee, and wonderful partners who helped make the event so memorable: the events team at Sony Pictures Studios, Amy Shomer & Associates, and Michael Kassar of Wexler’s Deli.
A few highlights from the night:
PHASE ONE Board of Directors Chair Brad Meadow kicked the program off with an inspiring reminder of the importance of funding Phase I clinical trials:
“I want to remind everyone that the clinical trials we support are so tricky for these brilliant doctors and researchers to get funded. Your support can often be the difference between a breakthrough drug or treatment saving many people’s lives or never getting a fair chance to actually breakthrough.” —Brad Meadow
Gala Co-Chair Deanne Lebowitz shared her powerful personal experience with cancer, reminding everyone that we all have a “Why”:
“PHASE ONE’s grant recipients do make a difference and I have experienced first-hand how we desperately need new treatments, new devices, and better outcomes.” —Deanne Lebowitz
Gala Co-Chair and PHASE ONE Granting Committee Co-Chair Marc Lebowitz shared some highlights from PHASE ONE’s recent grantees, and what he’s learned from PHASE ONE:
“The one thing that I have really come away with since joining the PHASE ONE Board several years ago is this… We can’t save the ones that are gone, but we can do our best to save the ones that are here.” —Marc Lebowitz
Michael Kassar of Wexler’s Deli curated a unique culinary experience for this year’s attendees— thank you to each of the restaurant vendors whose food made this year’s event truly unforgettable: Wexler’s Deli, Angelini Osteria, Antico Nuovo, Augie’s on Main, BADMAASH, Broad Street Oyster Co, The Cheese Store of Beverly Hills, Cookbook Market, Ggiata, Heavy Handed, Maple Block Meat Co, Organic Oren, Prince St Pizza, Tacos 1986, SUA, and Sweet Lady Jane.
