PHASE ONE Funds Imerman Angels’ Clinical Trial Matching Program
PHASE ONE Foundation is excited to announce a Community Grant for Imerman Angels in the amount of $50,000 to fund the organization’s Clinical Trial Matching Program.
Imerman Angels is on a mission to provide comfort and understanding for all who are touched by cancer through its unique peer-to-peer mentorship program. “We envision a world where cancer is not a solitary experience. No one should have to face cancer alone and without the necessary support.” — Stephanie Lieber, Executive Director of Imerman Angels
Since its inception, Imerman Angels has created more than 34,000 matches and registered and trained over 14,500 Mentor Angels— connecting cancer fighters, survivors, previvors, and caregivers in 113 countries with free, personalized one-on-one psychosocial support.
With the support of the Community Grant from PHASE ONE, Imerman Angels will build a focused Clinical Trial Matching Program to connect their patient and caregiver community with critical resources and education on clinical trials.
“Clinical trials are often misunderstood as only a late-stage option in cancer treatment. In actuality, they help to find new ways for cancer prevention and detection and allow for improved therapies to be developed. Clinical trials are critical for the advancement of positive cancer outcomes at all stages. The PHASE ONE Community Grants Committee is proud to have such a wonderful partner in Imerman Angels who will help teach and share this important knowledge to cancer patients and their caregivers.” —Lisa Woods, PHASE ONE Board Member
PHASE ONE’s grant will provide funding for formal training of Imerman Angels Cancer Support Specialists and other staff on clinical trials, two educational sessions for the Imerman Angels community, the development of a Mentor Angel recruitment plan focused specifically on building a pipeline for Mentors with experience with clinical trials, and the infrastructure to support this program.
To address the gross underrepresentation of the BIPOC community in clinical trials, a special and targeted effort will be placed on developing a diverse pool of Mentors and a customized marketing approach tailored to the BIPOC community.
“We are so grateful for the support of PHASE ONE for their commitment to making clinical trials more accessible, understandable, and impactful for cancer fighters, survivors, previvors and caregivers. Through their support of Imerman Angels’ matching program, our community will build trust and awareness around clinical trial participation.” — Stephanie Lieber, Executive Director of Imerman Angels
Together, PHASE ONE and Imerman Angels will build a program to educate, engage, and empower the patient and caregiver community.
